Plans for the 8th Annual Hellfest are already in the works, with many changes and new opportunities planned for 2004. Scheduled for July 23-25, Hellfest 2004 will be held at the Rexplex (www.rexplex.com) in Elizabeth, NJ and will feature 3 stages, over 100 bands, a skate contest on the facility’s 2 indoor skateparks, a tattoo convention sponsored by Halo Tattoos with over 25 of the top artists, and much more. Hellfest 2004 will also be documented, as three of the previous Hellfest events have been, with a DVD released by Highroller Studios/Radiotakeover featuring footage from the entire weekend.
For those curious about the move from Syracuse, NY, the Hellfest coordinators made the decision with the fans in mind. The move to New Jersey places Hellfest 2004 right in the heart of the tri-state area, a much more convenient location for both those in the vicinity, but also those traveling to the event (with Newark International Airport only a few blocks away). Additionally, this new facility has a much larger capacity, is entirely air conditioned throughout, offers a separate merch area overlooking the stages, houses numerous sporting venues including soccer fields, skateparks, basketball courts, and a paintball field, and provides a more enjoyable environment for such a large event.
With attendance last year estimated at just over 4,500 people per day, and in light of the move, this year’s Hellfest is sure to be better than ever.
Hellfest 2004 is currently accepting submissions from bands interested in playing this year’s fest. Coordinators are looking for the best metal, hardcore, punk and rock bands around. Those interested in submitting a band should email: bands@hellfest.com.
