Having all the right intentions to craft extreme music for the sake of making violent, ugly music, Blasphemer and Hellhammer unfortunately come up empty. Weltherrschaft is cold and mechanical but mostly feeble. Although you can’t fault a band for trying, you still can fault a band for not trying hard enough. MEZZERSCHMITT’s four song EP sounds like leftover/rehashed riffs from MAYHEM’s Grand Declaration of War (which itself was hit and miss…more miss than hit). That in turn qualifies MEZZERSCHMITT for not trying hard enough. Essentially the EP is a collection of abrasive riffs atop Hellhammer’s militaristic drumming, dressed with “singing” in German that instantly recalls RAMMSTEIN…and makes RAMMSTEIN sound good!
